Get Fit With The Center OC
The men’s program at the Gay & Lesbian Center of Orange County expanded its commitment to the health and well-being of gay/bisexual/curious men of Orange County. Joining forces with local personal trainer Amanda Johnson, the men’s program promises to start the New Year off on the right foot.
Designed to promote healthy lifestyle change and physical fitness among its participants, the “Get Fit” program offers additional mental-health benefits such as friendly competition, camaraderie and positive social support. Dealing with depression and low self-esteem will also be incorporated into the program.
The 12-week program will consist of a weekly discussion group to track participants’ progress and address issues they may encounter along the way. All participants are responsible for their own workouts and nutrition programs. However, Johnson will provide guidance and advice on topics such as proper nutrition, exercise and physical activity.
Johnson has offered her services as a trainer for $10 per session for the first 60 days. She has been involved in the health and fitness industry since 2005, and received her personal training certification from Mike Demora, director of education at the National College of Exercise Professionals and a board certified exercise therapist with NETABOC. Johnson specializes in teaching men and women how to develop a well-rounded, healthy lifestyle with consistent exercise, proper nutrition and realistic goal-setting. Her program incorporates fundamental principles and practices of core training and functional fitness, as well as yoga and Pilates.
